Documentation released with the iPhone 3.2 SDK suggests that major Apple iPad updates will be released as charged downloads. Read on for the full scoop.

Having to pay for updates when you’ve just splashed out £400 or more on an iPad sounds like a tall order, but Apple assures us that most iPad updates will be free. Here’s the quote from iPhone SDK 3.2 —

“Apple will provide you any iPad OS software updates that it may release from time to time, up to and including the next major iPad OS software release following the version of iPad OS software that originally shipped from Apple on your iPad, for free”

“Such updates and releases may not necessarily include all of the new software features that Apple releases for newer iPad models.”

Apple says it’ll supply you with all the bar snacks you can eat, but no full meals. When Apple charged iPod Touch users for the 3.0 iPhone OS update, it caused a stir among fans that led to following updates being made free once more. Could Apple be revisitng this paid strategy, or is it just leaving the door open…
