Movies (free)
Movies (by Flixter) is almost certainly the best movie information app available for Android – it’s fab. It links-in with the Rotten Tomatoes reviews aggregation site to give you an instant overview of whether a film’s worth seeing, lets you check out local theatre times and even keep a list of the movies you want to see. If you like movies, download this app.

yxflash (free)
If you want to play Divx movies on your Android, yxflash is the simplest way to do it. It lets you watch Divx videos without any re-encoding. The interface is quite simplistic, but until Android phones start including more codec support, it’ll remain a great app for mobile video-watchers.

New Movie Releases & DVDs ($0.99)
If you’re all about release dates for movies and DVDs, this dedicated Android app is worth investigating. It offers lists of movies that are coming out in future months, getting your salivary glands kick-started extra early.

Ace Movie Trivia ($0.99)
Want to prove you’re a real movie quiz nut? You can use Ace Movie Trivia to hone your skills. It includes 100 questions, all based around popular films. We’d ideally like to see a few hundred extra questions included, but there’s a free version to check out if you’re not convinced.

IMDB Top 250 (free)
The IMDB Top 250 films of all time list is one of the best sources to find movies you must see “before you die”. This neat app lets you cross off the films you’ve seen already from the IMDB Top 250 list, charting you route to film nirvana. You can then filter the results, depending on whether you’ve seen them or not. Can you watch the whole IMDB top 250 list in 2010?

CineShowTime (free)
If the interface of Movies is a bit overblown for your tastes, CineShowTime offers a simpler way to check out when films are on near you. You can label cinemas as favourites, and then check out the cinema times quickly with a click away from the app’s home page. Although it’s a US app, it found our local cinemas with no trouble.

Bollywood Movies (free)
Not into standard blockbuster fare? Bollywood Movies offers Bollywood news and a gallery of all the biggest Bollywood stars of the moment. We’d like to see a better Bollywood app made for Android, but as with film distribution, this Bollywood app seems a bit like a poor cousin.

Movie Wallpapers (free)
Making your own wallpapers is simple, but if you frequently change your phone’s backdrop it’s worth downloading a wallpaper app. Movie Wallpapers features tons of movie-themed Android wallpapers, from shots of actors to pics from film productions and promo images. They’re all the right aspect ratio to fit your phone too.

Chuck Norris Jokes (free)
Chuck Norris has no need for Android apps. After just one of his roundhouse kicks, the Android Market would crumble into dust, like a collapsing Mayan temple from an 80s action movie. As fearsome as the Norris is, jokes about him never seem to get old. Now you can get them on your Android.

Movie Trailer (free)
This app looks a bit crude, but it’s a quick way to watch the latest movie trailers. It streams the trailers over 3G or Wi-Fi, so there’s no large initial download involved. Aside from the trailer itself, Movie Trailer also offers some information on each film, such as the release date, plot synopsis and top-billing cast members.
