Nokia has officially unveiled its new flagship phone, the . Want to know more? Read our list of the top 10 things you need to know about this snazzy new .

Nokia’s naming system — it’s a flagship!
Nokia recently changed the naming system of its phones. It’s not a massive change, but it does tell us that the Nokia N8 is a high-end, flagship phone. The letter denotes the series while the number tells you how high up the ladder it is. In Nokia terms, “8″ is a pretty high number. Better start saving.

Best mobile camera ever?
The 12-megapixel sensor is impressive enough by itself, but add Carl Zeiss optics, and a full Xenon flash, and you start wondering — could this be the best mobile phone camera ever made? We’ll have to wait until we get our hands on it to judge, but it’s a strong contender for the title.

3.5-inch OLED screen
Just like the iPhone, the Nokia N8 offers a 3.5-inch screen. Unlike the iPhone, it uses OLED display technology, which offers increased maximum brightness and richer colours. Perfect for watching movies, to make use of Symbian’s great media-playing capabilities.

Capacitive touchscreen
Nokia took more convincing than most manufacturers, but it has finally come around the the capacitive way of thinking. Previous flagship phones, such as the Nokia N97 and N97 Mini, used the resistive type of touchscreen, which requires a stylus for the best results. Capacitive touchscreens are far happier with just a finger.

First Symbian^3 phone
The Nokia N8 is the first Symbian^3 phone, the first new iteration of the operating system to be released under the new “Open source Symbian” banner. Early reports of the operating system have been mixed, but any move on from the ageing Symbian S60 OS has to be a good thing.

16GB memory bundled, microSD hotswap
The Nokia N8 comes with 16GB of memory on-board and supports microSD hotswapping, which means you can switch memory cards without restarting the phone. The phone supports microSD cards of up to 32GB, and hotswapping makes this feature even more useful for power users with more movies or music files than a single card can hold.

HDMI output
While many phones offer decent media capabilities, few have the outputs needed to turn them into a media centre. With an HDMI output, you can use your Nokia N8 to send video to an HDTV. Match it up with a big microSD card and you have one seriously powerful media monster on your hands.

720p HD video recording
Not only does the Nokia N8 take fantastically detailed photos, it also records video in HD. Not full HD, granted, but 720p is not bad at all. Thanks to the HDMI connector, you’ll also be able to playback captured video on your TV without transferring any files. The Nokia N8 is just like a standalone digicam!

680MHz processor
Under the bonnet of the Nokia N8 is a 680MHz processor. It may not sound as impressive as the 1GHz Snapdragon that makes an appearance on the latest Android phones, such as the HTC Desire, but remember that the Nokia N8 has probably been more tailored for the OS than your average Android phone.

It’s super-connected
The Nokia N8 offers as wide an array of connectivity options as you could ask for. Not only is there high-speed 7.2Mbps HSDPA 3G connectivity, there’s also Wi-Fi and UPnP — this means you’ll be able to plug the Nokia N8 into just about any computer and it’ll be recognised automatically.
