Rumors today say Sony is set to announce a paid subscription service for the PlayStation Network called PSN+ at the upcoming E3 event. For a long time the fact that PSN has been completely free and free for PS3 owners to play games online has been something that differentiated it from Xbox Live for those looking to purchase a console. However, the free service has also been blamed for the lack of support and innovation taking place on the PlayStation Network in comparison to Xbox Live.
Below is a list of the rumored features to be included in the PSN+ service, which is speculated to cost $10 monthly. It should also be noted that Sony has mentioned in the past that they have no plans to take away PS3 owner’s ability to play online for free, rather the service would allow for additional benefits, features, and functionality.
* Free PSP Minis and PSone Classics
* Exclusive in-game DLC
* “first hour” demo access to full retail titles; ability to purchase the full title
* PlayStation Protection Plan
* Cross-game voice chat
* Cloud-based saving system
* Auto-patching feature
