The Samsung Galaxy Tab, just revealed at the IFA conference, is a 7-inch tablet that sports a lovely AMOLED display, offering better contrast than TFT LCD equivalents. It runs Android 2.2, currently the latest version of Google’s operating system and weighs just 380g, which is around half the weight of the Apple iPad (the Wi-Fi edition weighs 680g, the Wi-Fi+3G edition weighs 730g).

Samsung has unveiled the 7-inch version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the manufacturer’s first stab into the tablet market, stirred into life by the release of Apple’s iPad. The Galaxy Tab runs Android 2.2 out of the box and sports an AMOLED display, which T3 claims uses WSVGA resolution (1024×576) rather than the WVGA (800×480) display we were initially expecting.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab comes in two flavours, 16GB and 32GB, and two other sizes, 5-inch and 10-inch models, are expected to hit the market before too long. Unlike the iPad, the Galaxy Tab boasts dual cameras. There’s a 3-megapixel back camera for taking snaps and a VGA front-facing camera for video calling.
