The 2010 football World Cup has just kicked off, but how are you going to keep up with it when you’re away from a TV, radio or computer? With an mobile app, of course. Here are the best ones to download, for each type of smartphone.

Football/Soccer Feeds (Android)
This free app isn’t the prettiest you’ll ever use, but it’s perfect for keeping up-to-date with the latest goings-on of the 2010 World Cup. It gives you access to several news feeds, complete with preview excerpts you can read without heading to the web browser for the full story. Plus it tells you the schedule for all upcoming games, and the latest scores from matches already played.

ITV 2010 FIFA World Cup (iPhone)
Coming from TV channel ITV, this free iPhone app features a prettier interface than most. Its aim is to supply you with video footage of every goal of the tournament, which is no small ask. ITV 2010 FIFA World Cup also features favourite moments from previous world cups, including David Beckham’s first goal for England, back in 1998. Ah, memories.

South Africa on BlackBerry (BlackBerry)
This free BlackBerry app puts a lot of information at your fingertips, in a simple, digestible way. The Matches tab shows you simply and quickly all the games going on each day, like a calendar, so it won’t pile too much info on you if you don’t want it to. Dig a little deeper and it’s all here though. You can view teams’ squads and their schedules, check out the latest news and watch videos from all ends of the tournament.

Nokia Goal 2010 (Symbian)
There aren’t masses of 2010 World Cup footie apps available on the Ovi Store, but Nokia Goal 2010 should suit most of you footbal nuts out there. Its clear interface makes checking out the latest results, and the the latest football news, a snap. It’s available for free from the Ovi Store.

South Africa Live (iPhone)
South Africa Live is the only paid-for app we’ve included in this list, but at present it’s only 59p, so well worth investing in if you’re going to follow the tournament from start to finish. It offers amazingly detailed updates on the latest news from the tournament, which can be delivered by push notifications if you want to keep on the ball, so to speak. There are text commantaries for matches as they’re going on too, making this the best choice for football fanatics.
