Step 2: Once you are done with the jailbreak, you can now unlock your iPhone on the supported basebands using Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 from Cydia. To do this:

* Start “Cydia” on your iPhone.
* Touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom.
* Now touch on “Sources”
* Touch on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type “http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com” and touch on“Add Source” to add this repo if you haven’t already.
Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.

* After installation is completed. Search for “ultrasn0w 1.2.1” in Cydia and install this application. This app will automatically unlock your iPhone so that you can use it with any carrier.

Step 3: Now simply restart your iPhone and voila! you should now have a fully unlocked iPhone 4 or 3GS, running iOS 4.3.1 !

Step 1: Download the latest Redsn0w 0.9.6b6 for Windows or Mac via the links given at the end of this post.

Step 2: jailbreak your iPhone using this latest version of Redsn0w 0.9.6b6.

Step 3: Once you have jailbroken your iPhone, start Cydia and add http://repo.bingner.com repository.

Step 4: Now install “SAM” and “SAMPrefs”

Step 5: Now start the latest Redsn0w 0.9.6b6 again and select “Deactivate” option

Step 6: Now navigate to Settings > SAM and click “De-Activate iPhone”

Step 7: Start iTunes. Make sure your iPhone is connected. Allow iTunes to activate your iPhone officially.

Step 4: Start PwnageTool 4.1.3 and point it to iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1 firmware file.

Step 5: You will now be prompted to update your baseband to 06.15.00 so that it can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w 1.2.

Step 6: Now point PwnageTool 4.1.3 to iOS 3.2.2 for iPad. PwnageTool will now fetch the exploitable 06.15.00 baseband from 3.2.2 firmware and will replace it the baseband in iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1.

Step 7: Click the next arrow now to allow PwnageTool to create this custom ipsw file for you.

Step 8: Now follow the following steps to enter DFU mode:

* Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
* Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds
* You device should now be in DFU mode

Step 9: You will now have to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 4.2.1 / 4.1 file. Start iTunes, click on your device icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your custom firmware 4.2.1 / 4.1 file. Select the required custom .ipsw file and click on “Open”.

Step 10: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don’t do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 4.2.1 / 4.1 on your iPhone 3GS or 3G. Your iOS device screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, your iPhone will restart automatically and you should now have a fully jailbroken iPhone 3GS or 3G with 06.15.00 baseband.

UPDATE 1: A new fixed version of PwnageTool bundle for iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1 has been released. Here’s how to use it:

a. Copy PwnageTool that you downloaded in Step 3 to a folder on your desktop. Right click, and then click on “Show Package Contents” as shown in the screenshot below.

b. Navigate to Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and copy-paste this iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117.bundle file in this location and then simply close this folder. Now follow Step 4 and onwards as posted in the guide above.

Step 2: Download the latest version of PwnageTool Bundle for iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.2, and then extract it to your desktop.

Step 3: Now download iOS 4.2 GM for iPhone 3GS. You can get the official bits if you are a registered developer, or from different content sharing sites around the web. Please do not ask for the download links, a simple Google will do it all !

Step 4: Copy PwnageTool that you downloaded in Step 1 to a folder on your desktop. Right click, and then click on “Show Package Contents” as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 5: Navigate to Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/ and paste iPhone2,1_4.2_8C134.bundle file in this location and then simply close this folder.

Step 6: Now move atvBundlePatcher.sh and Info.plist.patch files to the same directory (on desktop) as the PwnageTool.

Step 7: Now rename atvBundlePatcher.sh to atvBundlePatcher.command and double click this file so that Terminal can execute the script as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 8: Once you are done, close all the open windows and start this patched version of PwnageTool, Select “Expert Mode” and browse for the original iOS 4.2 for iPhone 3GS firmware as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 9: Select “Build” and click next. PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which will be jailbroken.

Step 10: Now follow the following steps to enter DFU mode:

* Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds

* You device should now be in DFU mode

Step 2: Next, you will need to install OpenSSH. To do this, Open Cydia, touch on “Search” tab and then search for “OpenSSH”. Install this app and reboot your iPhone.

Step 3: Connect your iPhone 3GS with your computer. Make sure iTunes is not running.

Step 4: Download and install Cyberduck for Mac or WinSCP for Windows. Enter the following details to login to your iPhone:

Step 6: Navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/ directory and copy the N88AP.plist file in this location as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 7: Now navigate to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Celestial.framework/N88/ directory and copy AVCapture.plist, CameraRollValidator.plist and MediaValidator.plist files in this location as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 8: Now simply restart your iPhone 3GS and you are done !

1. Download iOS 4.1 for iPhone 3G & iPod Touch 2G

2. Download iTunes 10

3. Download Redsn0w 0.9.6B1

4. Now follow our guide to manually update iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3G & iPod Touch 2G

5. Once you have updated iPhone 3G to iOS 4.1 start Redsn0w 0.9.6B1

6. Click on Browse button and select iPhone 3G 4.1 firmware (iPhone1,2_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw) downloaded in step 1

7. Now click next and Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 will prepare data for jailbreak.

8. Now select “Install Cydia” and click Next. (If you want to disable multitasking & wallpaper then simple uncheck respective options).

9. Now You will need to power off your iPhone 3G and connected to computer only then click on next button of Redsn0w 0.9.6b1

10. At this stage you will need to put your iPhone in DFU mode, to do this hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too for about 10 seconds. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins (about 30 seconds).

11. Now just wait until Redsn0w completes the rest of the process. Once done, your iPhone 3G will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken with iOS 4.1.

Unlocking

As of now iOS 4.1 baseband is not-unlockable henc you must stay away from about guide & wait for Pwnagetool for iOS 4.1 or use Sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 to create ios 4.1 custom firmware to retain baseband and unlock it with Ultrasn0w.

Step 2: Put your device into DFU mode (not recovery mode).

* Connect your iPhone to your computer.
* Turn iPhone off.
* Start iTunes.
* Hold Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds or so.
* Release Power button but keep holding the Home button until your computer recognizes a new USB device.
* iTunes will now recognize your iPhone.

Note: Your iPhone screen at this time should be blank (black in color), if not, then you are most likely in Recovery Mode, not DFU mode.

(Step 3 is for iPhone 4, iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, 3G, 2G (MC Model) users only. If you are on iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2G (non-MC model), skip Step 3 and continue from Step 4)

Step 3: This step is applicable to iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G and iPod touch 2G (MC model) which have their SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) saved on Cydia for the firmware you downgrading on. If you don’t have your SHSH files saved, you cannot downgrade the mentioned devices.

So what we will do is to trick iTunes into thinking that it is watching Apple servers, while in real, we are going to change the address to Saurik’s server.

* Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and locate “hosts” file.

Mac OS X users can get to “/etc/” directory by going through “Go –> Go to Folder” from Finder.

* Open this “hosts” file in Notepad (for Windows) or TextEdit (for Mac OS X) and add this

Now simply save this file and you are good to go!

NOTE for Windows 7 and Vista: Start “Notepad” with Administrator privileges by right clicking on “Notepad” app, and click on “Run as Administrator“ option.

NOTE for Mac OS X: Make sure you have full read and write access on your account when you are saving the host file. If it still throws permission error, simply copy the host file to desktop, make the required changes, and then replace it with the original file in “/etc/” directory.

Step 4: You will now have to restore your iPhone to the firmware you downloaded in Step 1. Click on your phone icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” (option) button on Mac (Left “Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release this button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your downloaded firmware file. Select that ipsw file and click on “Open”.

Step 5: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don’t do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the requested firmware on your iPhone. Your iPhone screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. Now at some point, iTunes will probably throw 1004 or 1015 error at you. This is normal, just ignore this error as the firmware has already been successfully installed on the device.

Step 6: Your iPhone at this point will be stuck in Recovery Mode, showing that “Connect to iTunes” screen. To exit your device from Recovery Mode, download this program called TinyUmbrella (Windows / Mac). Run it and the click on “Kick Device Out of Recovery” button. Your device will now restart normally.
